bad luck! good news!

Howdy dowdy!
Hope you've been doing well! So I've got some good news and some bad news for you. Let's start with the bad news since I like to end on a good note.
The bad news is, my favorite camera (the Olympus OM-2n) is starting to die on me and all the rolls I shot through that camera are bust. Though the camera can easily be saved via CLA (clean, lubricate, adjust), many of my shots were unfortunately lost. It seems as though my light meter is as they say, outta whack, so many of my shots were overexposed. Normally, this is an okay thing to do on film, but the problem here is I had each roll of film pushed a stop, resulting in strong black shadows nuking every frame. The photos in this post are some of the few remaining shots I could salvage in post-edit.
Furthermore, if I had to be honest with myself, I've been in a slight creative rut in the past few weeks. With the colder weather and adjusting to working a full-time job, it's been a struggle for me to go home after a day of work, shower, change, and put myself back out there on the streets to work on my photography. I've been distracting myself by curling up on my couch after work and reading until I inevitably fall into a cat nap, which in itself is a luxurious experience. Despite this little hurdle, I definitely haven't lost my passion for taking photos! I've been buying a lot of photo books as a study source and inspiration for when I finally get back out there! To help prevent myself from feeling guilty about slowing down my creative process, I always have to remind myself that it's okay to take a break from your hobbies and redirect that energy somewhere else.

As for the good news...
Ahhh, I don't even know where to start!! Okay, let's go in the order of... professional life, personal life, then my hobbies.
Professional Life!
So! Everyone remembers that I started a new job last month right? I don't know why I'm asking you this since there's no way for anyone to reply with an answer. Anyways, I'm having a blast at work! As I've been training and learning the ropes, each colleague and preceptor I've worked with have been so supportive and kind. Especially when training in a traditionally fast-paced, high-tension work environment, it feels everyone there knows what it feels like to be a newbie in the work field and have been incredibly understanding of my inexperience as a new nurse. What is most exciting is that despite this, each person I've worked with has taken the time to help push me out of my comfort zone and really progress in skill and confidence coordinating with everyone in the operating room.
Personal Life!
Now that I'm all settled into Philly, I have been doing a much better job of reaching out to my old friends and making new ones! I finally go to check out an item from my bucket list last night!! In my very own apartment, I got host my first ever pizza party with a small group of friends. Just being able to kick back in space of my own, crack jokes, and cry from laughter is one of the best feelings in the world. I've also started doing fun little weekly cooking nights with an amazing new friend! It's been a huge highlight each week as we try out new dishes and hunt for new ones!

The Fuji X100V digital camera was announced recently, which is the fifth iteration of the original X100 I am using today. I'm excited to say that after much deliberation, I'll be saving up to buy this new model! The original X100 was released in 2010 and I am eager to see how big of a jump it will be going to this new model. That's a ten-year jump for me! Five generations! I keep telling other people this, but to me, it's like jumping from a flip phone to the latest flagship smartphone. The X100V boasts a lot of new technology that I've been craving from a compact Fuji camera: face/eye-autofocus, weather sealing, a tilting-touchscreen, and a brand spanking new, sharp as heck lens all in a similar size package. It'll be a while before I receive this new camera, but I'll be sure to post my thoughts on it once I feel ready to talk about it!
Hmmm, final thoughts I've got on my mind... of all the shots I have on this post, the first shot with the skeleton is definitely my favorite. I was so sad when I first went over my scans, thinking I had lost all the shots from this location when voilà! There it was, the perfect shot with great framing and the classic Tri-X tones I love. This might be the last post with shots on 35mm film for a while! I have a feeling that when X100V finally arrives into my hands, that might be my daily driver for quite some time as I send my classic cameras off for some love and repair.
I hope you enjoyed the little snapshots of my life!
Until next time!
